An elementary school student at a Burlington Township school has died due to complications resulting from the flu, according to the district.
The child, a student at B. Bernice Young School, died Friday or Saturday at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, according to a news release today from Burlington Township Schools.

The unidentified child fell ill Thursday afternoon at an afterschool program. On Friday morning, emergency personnel were called to the child's home.

News of the child's death was reported to the school Saturday morning. Family members told the school the death was a result of complications resulting from an Influenza B virus, according to the release.

The child did have a flu vaccination, according to the release, and the school has had a special cleaning on Friday and Sunday to reduce the chances of further spread.

Fourteen other students at the school went home last week with fever and/or vomiting last week, the release states. Parents of those students have been contacted to take further precautions.

The district will conduct a news conference at 11 a.m. today. Stay tuned for details.
