![]() Topic: Question about flu symptomsPosted: October 27 2009 at 7:32am |

Can someone give an example of what 'mild flu symptoms' are and how to differentiate between swine flu and regular flu?
I currently have flu and I would not classify my symptoms as mild. I am not so bad today as I was yesterday but I would say it is by far the worst flu I have ever had and I am 42 years old. My heart has been racing very fast and last night I was dizzy to the point I couldn't stand or even think straight. In addition to the above I now have what I would describe as 'normal' flu symptoms such as fever and aching although I am not particularly congested I do have a cough. I live in Colorado Springs. Are my symptoms consistent with swine flu? I ask because I don't want to go through this again (its bad - it is definitely not 'mild') and am wondering which if any vaccines would be appropriate for me at this time and whether or not I have swine flu or just a bad regular flu. |

Button....welcome:).. In light of what you're sharing, it may be prudent for you to contact your physician and/or seek an appt today...or go get your heart/lungs check'd out at a walk in clinic. Do you have family with you? Or a friend who can take you? regardless of whether you have swine flu or "regular flu"..what matters right now is your symptoms...and the words you used were (bad). You are correct....being dizzy to the point you can't stand...is not mild. Get checked out.....sooner rather than later. Let us know how you're doing!...(after you've seen a doc ) |

If for some reason you are perusing this forum this morning....rather than getting yourself to the drs..
![]() If you have the flu, the likelihood of having swine flu is much greater than "regular"seasonal flu. Either way, your lungs sound like they're being effected and you also may wish to ensure you're not experiencing a secondary infection(bacterial)...or some other complication. When you have a chance to catch your breath later, pls share all other symptoms as well as if you have been seen by a doc prior to today. |

Welcome button999, sorry you aren't feeling well. I don't think there is an easy way to tell the difference between swine and seasonal flu. And everyone is different and some have a few symptoms others don't. As T4F said, most of what's going around, if not all, is H1N1. Seasonal Flu hasn't started in my state TN yet, if it has it's at the very very beginning.
I would definitely get evaluated by my Dr. If nothing else just to make sure lungs are clear and nothing bacterial is going on. Drink, Drink, Drink and then Drink some more. That is key to keeping yourself hydrated and keeping mucus flowing and not backing up into sinuses, ears or lungs.
Treat your fever to help yourself feel better and eat a light diet. Let us know how you are today if you feel up to it.
As far as the vaccine goes, the CDC is recommending people get it even if they've had a flu like illness that very well could have been H1N1, But was NOT confirmed by testing.
