I am in Franklin County and I have not heard anything new about the Swine Flu here.  I was in Batesville last week at the hospital with my son and there was a suspected case there (Hispanic baby).

Hello, rweeks44.  Thanks for posting.  Insist they do the nasal swab so you can know for sure.  Since it's early if her flu test is positive they can start her on tamiflu and she should recover faster and not feel as terrible.

Have you been to a county fair recently by any chance, if so did your daughter go to the petting zoo.  If you've seen the news there is a rise in cases of a new strain of flu that kids are getting from the petting zoos at fairs... heavy activity has been seen in Indiana & Ohio.

Indiana now has 138 swine flu cases in 23 counties
August 16, 2012

Indiana health officials say a new strain of swine flu now has been found in 23 counties of the state.

The Indiana State Department of Health said Thursday that Marion, Marshall, and Delaware counties have joined 20 previously identified counties where cases of the swine flu strain have been confirmed. The other counties are Bartholomew, Greene, Hamilton, Hendricks, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, Porter, Scott, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Washington, White, and Whitley.

The health department says the total number of cases confirmed in the recent outbreak is 138.

Health officials say they haven’t found any cases transmitted person-to-person but continue to investigate the possibility.

Nope, no fairs or petting zoos. We are just South of Indianapolis, but I promise I will keep everyone posted. Thanks for the info!

... didn't read it too well the first time. I am in Johnson county. Franklin Indiana. Scary. I've had swine flu before when we lived in Louisiana. Was no fun in the least. Think I was sick for three weeks befoe I found out what it was. We are a military family so we move around a lot. I don't ever want that stuff again! I'll keep my fingers crossed!

My dd & I had the B strain despite having the flu shot (although it was not as severe as it would have been) Feb of 2011.  So I know what you mean.

Hope she is feeling better soon.  Let us know how the appt goes tomorrow.  It may not even be the flu.

Your right! Not the flu. She tested positive for Strep, which she also had three weeks ago, but with no fever and vomiting. Guess that's why I thought it was the flu. As soon as she gets to feeling better I am making all of us a flu shot appointment though. Definitely not worth being sick. Thanks for all the kind words and caring.

So glad to hear you're not dealing w/ the flu!  Did they not treat the strep 3 weeks ago?  Well either way she'll be on the mend soon, :)

I know what you mean about the flu shot, I never thought too much of the flu or the vaccines yrs ago, then in 2003 when my son was 6 yrs old he was in the hospital for 3 days w/ double pneumonia from the flu.  Had never ever been that sick before in his life, never been hospitalized for anything.  It was bad, I've never seen him that lethargic it was so scary.  He had to be under an O2 tent, IV antibiotics, lost a 1/10 of his body weight... it was horrible.  I swore we'd never ever miss a flu shot after that and we haven't.  You just never know how it's going to go, how your body or your children's bodies will respond, so we just don't take the chance.

Oh gosh! That's horrible! I've had one with pneumonia before but not that bad. We hate it when our babies are sick. Yes, she was treated 3 weeks ago but I think with it going around her class they are just taking turns. Vomiting and fever just threw me off. I even picked her up some multivitamins. Figured it can't hurt. Well, I wish you and your family a healthy flu season. God Bless!
