CDC: States Should
Control Flu Vaccine

ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) - It will up to Georgia's Department of Community Health to decide how to distribute the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available. Centers for Disease Control experts said Tuesday they were strongly encouraging states to take the vaccine to where kids are, which means schools.

"To get lots of children vaccinated quickly you need them to all be in one place," said Dr. Anthony Fiore.

The CDC's top H1N1 flu experts told a group of health care journalists that it will be up to states to determine how to distribute the flu vaccine but it makes sense to use schools.

"What schools are able to do is take one class at a time, escort them to the gym, or wherever they're doing it and then bring them back, so generally that has been an orderly process," said Dr. Pascale Wortley.

Each student will probably need two doses of H1N1 vaccine to be delivered three weeks apart. Over the next few months, schools will be sending letters home alerting parents about the clinics, which will be voluntary.

The federal government is buying the H1N1 vaccine, so parents will not be asked to pay for their child's flu shot at school. They will be asked to sign consent forms sent home with their children, and that's where things could get a little complicated.

Like homework, permission slips tend to get lost. "I'm a parent. I know how consent forms end up in the bottom of backpacks. That is a challenge," said Dr. Jay Butler.

The H1N1 Vaccine Task Force director, Dr. Butler said everyone who gets the vaccine will also get a vaccine record card to keep track of their shots.

The vaccine record cards will be very traditional old-fashioned cards which will show when the vaccine was administered, which vaccine was administered and a lot number. People are encouraged to keep the records in case they need any record of what they received in the past.

I have no problem with vaccines, but I'm seriously worried about adjuvants - particularly Squalene - being used in the fall. Is there any word on unadjuvented vaccines being available for kids?
Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

Will do some research and see what reliable info may be found.

Not positive...but I believe....Sanofi Pasteur is the company making our 1st round of vaccines. The US had originally ordered from a couple of manufacturers , yet we got bumped re: priority.(I think).

I prefer my squalene in Olive Oil..with a touch of balsamic vinegar....
and am not so comfortable with the thought of it being injected.

We may have to look at research done by other countries to get a better feel of manifestations of the associated risk. It is my understand that adjuvants in vaccines have been used outside the US previously.

squalene? in US vaccinations...

In May, HHS directed approx 1 Billion toward development of vaccine/clinical studies
July...committed 884 Million for additional purchases of antigen and adjuvant
for existing contracts with Sanofi Pasteur, MedImmune, GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis. The vaccine ingredients will become a part of the pandemic stockpile, for use if a vaccination campaign is necessary.

Squalene seems to be in test vaccine of Sanofi Pasteur currently undergoing clinical trials in US..(can't find anything to the contrary)

CDC Dr Anne Shuchat stated that while they purchased the adjuvant squalene, they don't actually expect to use it.
per transcript of podcast:
Go ahead...start laughing......I did

If I were to make a wild guess....I'm thinking they're testing it out with squalene....to see what happens....then prior to going to production..
someone/somewhere is going to make that decision:
Include squalene....or don't

Looks like right now....We don't know...

Let's keep an eye on this!!!
I had also read previously that different areas of the country may receive one companies...and others...from separate.
So it may not be one size fits all......in the info category.

Can't wait to actually see what ends up in my state!
