Topic: Number of H1N1 cases in Colorado

Colorado has 7 cases of H1N1 confirmed according to the CDC.

Flu Mom and I are both volunteers for Colorado. Flu Mom is also a regional volunteer for Wyoming and Nebraska. I'm actually copying what she has done in Nebraska and Wyoming to keep them updated on the number of cases. Hope you don't mind Flu Mom.

10 Cases as of 4/5/09

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment says there are now 10 cases, from the following counties: Adams (4), Arapahoe, Douglas, Eagle, Fremont and Jefferson (2).

The following descriptions were released about the victims:

- A primary school-age child from Adams County

- A college-age man from Adams County

- A primary school-age boy from Jefferson County

- A woman in her 30s from Fremont County

- A man in his 20s from Adams County

- A woman in her 30s from Arapahoe County

- A man in his 40s from Douglas County

- A man in his 20s from Eagle County

- A middle school-age boy from Jefferson County

- A man in his 20s from Adams County (previously reported as
Jefferson County)

My granddaughter just brought home a newsletter from her school saying there is a confirmed case of H1N1 in Morgan County which is in her school district. I think that brings it to 38 in Colorado.

Colorado now stands at 53. The Mountain States Employers Council has at least taken some steps in preparation for a pandemic. They advise:

In the event of a pandemic or other more serious turn in the flu outbreak, the MSEC advises these actions:

"Identify core activities essential for business continuity and the skills necessary to stay operational. Cross-training of employees may be required.
"Explore how work would continue if half your workforce is not at work. Absenteeism rates between 20 percent-60 percent could be expected during the height of the pandemic.
"Provide equipment and support for employees to telecommute if their jobs permit. 'Social distancing' is a key tactic to limit the spread of the virus.
"Encourage flex hours to avoid overcrowding the workplace.
"Review corporate-wide insurance policies, specifically health, disability, salary continuance, business travel and life insurance related to the pandemic. Communicate policy provisions to employees."

At least they are starting to think along the lines that could help contain the virus.

Watching 7 News...an infant and a 20 year old in El Paso County are in the hospital with H1N1.

Colorado is supposedly now at 68 cases, but I know cases are not all being reported. My niece sat next to someone in school who was tested positive and she later got really sick. They didn't take her to the Dr., but pretty sure she had it.

Just got three more cases in our County. Also, a 44 year old school teacher here got sick with headache, sore throat, nausea. Sent to Denver this week. He died Friday. Hope this wasn't a case of H1N1, but sure makes you wonder.

the CEO of my friends company and the CFO are both in quarantine right now. It's out there...creepin...not being reported always, that's for darn sure.

No one is telling people the truth about how many or how sick people are with H1N1. Think this is bad I am worried about fall and winter. We are in summer with FLU!!

I am very worried. I'm feeling anxious and depressed that folks will not prepare, our government is not making announcements and people think the "swine flu" emergency is over. Yes, FluMom, I am worried. Annie
